About Sentivity
Sentivity is an organization comprised of software engineers, machine learning specialists, writers, and experts from diverse disciplines. Our mission is to foster a safe, positive social media experience by eliminating unnecessary negativity – whether it’s general hate or discrimination against marginalized groups. Through our web extension, we aim to enhance our users’ overall wellbeing through innovative tools like our personalized mental health portfolios, a predictive model for negativity spikes, and our groundbreaking negativity filter.
Our Roots
Sentivity began in January 2024, when machine learning engineers Rowan Martnishn and Viraj Chawda created the first version of our project through IDPro at Virginia Tech – a natural language processing algorithm designed to analyze negativity patterns in right-wing Subreddits during specific events. What began as an exploratory project grew to take on new events, Subreddits, and analytical methods. In fall 2024, we expanded to include several new areas of focus, including the mental health portfolio and the idea of a user-friendly web extension. Today, our engineers are committed to improving Sentivity with cutting-edge technology and bringing on new talent to ensure we remain at the forefront of our industry. At our core, our roots targeted marginalized communities now ignite our mission to bring the power to curate your own experience online for everyone.
